'I awoke in the darkness listening to the sound of a jack hammer. After a few moments, I realized it was me, the jack hammer, my heart. Fear engulfed me and I remained still wondering why my heart was pounding so heavily in my ears. Where was I? The room was dark, and except for the throbbing of my heart, silence ensued.'

I can't wait until next time...

Wow! What a great time I had at the Brownsburg Art Festival.  I was a big help selling books too! The morning began with heavy dew and sunshine.

I first tried to sit at my desk with my reading glasses on, but the sun was just too bright.

So, I put on my sunglasses which made it easier when talking to people and when...

reading my book!

After the sun dried the dew-drenched tent, we were able to set up the rest of our space.

I was amazed at all the people who walked by just to "ooohh" and "aahhh" at me.   I got questioned about why I keep a pencil in my antler (how else am I going to mark off the favorite parts of The Moose at the Manger) and comments about having on sunglasses (well, it was extremely sunny after all)!

The best part of the day was spending it outdoors with my Poppy and Moo.  Of course, going back to the hotel in the air condition was a lot of fun too!

Thanks to all who stopped by to chat and purchase books!

Come give a "high 5" to High Five!

Looking for something to do this weekend?
Well, you could go on a moose hunt!

Hi! I am High Five.  Yes, that is really my name, because I am always poised and ready to give  a high 5.  I am a people person...actually I think that would be a people moose. Anyway, if you are in the area why not come out to the Festival of the Arts in Brownsburg, Indiana on Saturday, July 21 (not too far from Indianapolis).  Just think, you can meet me (and my Moo), visit all the vendors, have some good eats, and enjoy the great outdoors.

Here is a link for the festival to get more information.
If you do come, please make sure to stop by and say HELLO!  Tell my Moo you saw me on the computer and you'll get a special gift too!

How Do Moose Handle the Heat? You know it's been a burning question! :)

We've gotten lots of questions about how moose handle the summer heat, especially in light of this long heat wave we've had here at home.

Believe it or not, some of us really do enjoy "fun in the sun".  We are always careful to make sure we put on sun screen, wear sunglasses and a hat.  We would hate for our antlers to get burnt...ouch that would hurt!

After laying out in the sun, we often take dips on the pool.  It's good to stay hydrated on the inside and out.
It's a little known fact that moose are great swimmers.  People think we are just in the water to find food, but we also like a good swim once in awhile.  It's great exercise! (How do you think our legs stay so slender and fit?)

After a day of  "Fun in the Sun", we like to come in and enjoy some rest and relaxation.  I have my chair, a cool refreshment, and a brush to make sure my fur isn't all tangled from the water.  The only thing I seem to be missing is the remote control for the TV.

Now, if we could just get our Poppy and Moo to order a pizza from our favorite place, this would be a perfect day!

Celebrate America!

All of us moose just want to wish all of you a very safe and
Happy Independence Day!

Here are some historical quotes that we thought you might enjoy...

There, I guess King George will be able to read that.
John Hancock (1737-1793)

They that can give up essential liberty to obtain a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety.

Benjamin Franklin (1706-1790)

Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people, who have a right…and a desire to know; but besides this, they have a right, an indisputable, unalienable, indefeasible, divine right to that most dreaded and envied kind of knowledge, I mean of the characters and conduct of their rulers.
John Adams (1735-1826)

Benjamin Franklin purportedly said this after signing the
 Declaration of Independence...
We must all hang together or assuredly we will all hang separately.

~A little patriotic music from our very own Moo~
