How Do Moose Prepare for Halloween?

Pricilla

We just got noose news that the first month of editting editing for our gnu new book, The Moose at the Manger, is coming to an end.  You would think with spell chek   and grammar check that there wouldn2t (oops) wouldn't be that much to do.  I think that if our hooves weren't so big, we would knot  not make so many mis takes , um, mistakes.  Good thing we have editors with actual fingers to help us out!

Even though we are about to move to our second month of production for our new book, which is conceptual editing, we can't help but digress to talk about Halloween!  I am Pricilla and this is my hubby Robert (pronounced Ro-bear). I call him BOB!  We love living here and cannot wait until Monday when we get to dress up and go out trick-or-treating.  You might think we don't need a costume, because we could pose as moose and no one would be the wiser, BUT what fun would that be.
Robert and Pricilla

First, we are spending the weekend with some of our "dear"est (pun intended) moose friends telling scary moose stories like the one about the moose that had to actually forage for food....twigs and berries and leaves, yuck! Ohhhhh the inhumanity of that!  After our scary stories we are going to go bobbing for meatballs in a fine Ragu with a nice Cabernet and maybe a breadstick or two. Finally, we are going to put the finishing touches on our costumes.

Halloween will be here before you know it and we want to be ready!!!  It is sure to be a big event, so stay tuned for the moose-tacular, spook-tacular pictures!

Midwestern Moose Merriment!

It's a beautiful fall Midwestern day today!

(Click on any image to enlarge.)

What a better way to enjoy the day than by playing outside in the leaves.  A couple of us moose are going to get our wheel barrel and wagon and go play!  YIP-EEE!!!

We can't wait...

Let's go!!!

I am Graham and I cannot wait to play with my brother and sister!  We all get along so well.  As a matter of fact, my brother Hal (his full name is Hal2Shoes) let me borrow his boots so I won't get my hooves dirty! He's  a great guy but a little camera shy.  We'll try to get him to come to the blog later.  But for now....it's out to play!

Let's fill up the wheelbarrow!!

Okay! That sounds like fun!!

We did it!

What fun to help Poppy and Moo with the leaves!

A Perfect Day!

Yawn!!!! It's one of those days today and I am the perfect moose for it. There's a crisp fall breeze blowing the leaves, we're expecting up to 3 inches of rain and some of it is hitting the windows already, and there's a bit of a chill in the air. Luckily, I am a domesticated moose and live indoors. Today I am going to do what many people wish they could be doing...

Nick - Rest and relaxation at last!

My name is Nick. Many years ago, Poppy and Moo were shopping at the Army Navy Surplus store and found my brother Andy and I.
My brother Andy

We were carried in a bag with our faces and antlers sticking out (for breathing and communication purposes). We soon learned this to be a very common moose mode of transportation when being taken to our new abode. We knew for sure we were moving to a better place. Our antlers were twitching and we couldn't wait to get home to Chris' new house! We were amazed at the size of the place especially since we had spent months on a single shelf with not much room to roam. In our new house with Chris and the rest of the family life was good, that's for sure.
Then to my suprise, Poppy and Moo's nephew, who was just a little human at the time, made me an extraordinary present! He went to his basement and built a special bed just for me and my extra long legs. I have a special pillow for my head that is antler friendly, and since I have my winter fur already I don't need a blanket. What a kid! Today he's an army soldier. He's come a long way from being a little human and we've come a long way in our own fun-loving moose world.
I think now I'll grab that nap and watch some TV! Yawn! It's a perfect day for it on my perfect bed!

Sweetest Day Interview with Francis and Francine...a MUST READ!

It is Sweetest Day today... at least that is what Hallmark says.  Recently one of our favorite moose couples, Francis and Francine, were interviewed...
Francis and Francine

Interviewer:  Please introduce yourselves and tell the readers how long you've been "moosied". [That's like being married for humans.]

Francine:  I'll take this question...I am Francine and this handsome moose next to me is Francis!  We have been together since the first spring after the first winter when I heard the mating call over the horizon.

Interviewer: Wow!  That sounds like an interesting first date.  How did you know that Francis was the moose for you?

Francine: Well, that is a silly question.  He complimented my snout.  I complimented his antlers.  He asked what my favorite food was, and when I said PIZZA and MEATBALL sandwiches we knew we had a love that would last.

Interviewer: Pizza and Meatball sandwiches?????  I thought moose were herbivores?

Francis:  I'll answer that question dear.  If you mean "herbivores" in the sense that we put herbs on all of our food, we are definitely that!

Interviewer: (laughing)- How did you end up living in the Midwest in The Moose Room?

Francis and Francine looked at each other and said in unison..."That's a great little story!  You tell it."

Francine jumped right in:  Well we were sitting on our rocking chair.  The chair you see in our picture, when these two human beings came upon us.  They had another moose with them whose head was sticking out of a bag (so he could breathe, of course).  The moose asked us if we wanted to move with him to a better climate, live indoors, have indoor plumbing and eat food that gets delivered to your room.  We had spent one too many winters outdoors and jumped at the chance!

Francis:  The  moose in the bag turned out to be Chris Mas Moose, the main moose of the house, and he's just great.  What we thought might be a mooseland fairytale turned out to be a dream come true.

Interviewer:  That is a great story!  Indoor moose...whose house is it exactly that you live in?

Francine and Francis replied:  Chris' house! But, he does let our adopted Moo and Poppy live there with us.  He's a thoughtful moose that way!

Interviewer: So,this being Sweetest Day and all, tell me, what is your secret to a good "moosage"?

FrancineWell, there are a few things.. always leave the refrigerator door closed, share the TV remote control, never go to bed angry, and...

Francis:   Love is never having to say, "I'm hungry!" (Always but always, give the delivery man a good tip!)

Interviewer:  There you have it folks...true love as told through the eyes and stomachs of moose!
Happy Sweetest Day to everyone...as for me...I'm going to get me something to eat!

Pool-side Moose

Culloden

My name is Culloden. I know by my name I sound like I should be from Scotland, but I am originally from England. I remember coming over here to the states, flying in a plane for the first time, and going through customs at the airport. I was adopted by my Poppy and Moo and now live in a cool, cool house!  When I first found out America was going to be my new home I was very excited, but I still keep an antler focused on news from across The Pond.  That's where I learned about this moose!

As reported in the UK's DailyMail...some moose can't swim...really?!   I know we can't do the back stroke, but I think we all know how to swim...the moose-paddle is one of the easiest moves to do.   Actually if it wasn't for the pool cover this moose would probably still be enjoying  his day in the water.  This poor moose was in the wrong pool but at the right time.  City workers came to his rescue!  And this happened right here in the USA...For the love of moose!  I love this country!

A moose stuck in a swimming pool was rescued by nine people on Friday.

Police and firefighters were called to a New Hampshire home after the animal was found floundering in the pool, unable to get out.

The pool's owner George Trapotsis was shocked to discover the stranded beast, adding he had not seen a moose in his garden the entire 35 years he had lived at the property.

Speaking to WMUR.com, Mr Trapotsis said: 'This train-like noise came through the fence and dove right into the pool.

'He tore the cover, got entangled and just couldn't move.'

Jack Pushee of New Hampshire Fish and Game, joked: 'I didn’t get trained on how to do this, that’s for sure.

'There’s a first for everything.'

At around 12 pm, nine rescuers - including police, firemen and fish and game officials - attached ropes to the stricken animal and began pulling it out of the pool.

Although the animal was distressed during the rescue it appeared fine after escaping the pool, trotting off back into the woods.

Despite the damage, Mr Trapotsis remained stoical about the incident.

He added: 'Between the cover, the liner, the steps, the fence - now the reality sets in.

'It had to happen so people could see something amazing, something extraordinary, something that will never happen again in a century.'

Stosh and the "Year That Was"!

HI! I am Stanley, but my family and friends call me Stosh! As you can see, even though I am from the South Side of Chicago....I am a CUBS FAN...I know, I know...it's very hard to see the emblem on my shirt (that's because it's been over 100 years since they've won the World Series).  BUT I heard that in 1984, the Cubs came really close to being winners.  I wasn't born yet...but the legend goes like this....

Stanley aka Stosh

That year the Cubs did make it to the National League Playoffs. It definitely was the year that was. It was the year the Cubs had 96 wins!

It was the first year Cubs were in postseason play since 1945. It was the year the Cubs won the first two playoff games with scores of 13–0, and 4–2. What could stop them now?

Well they were the Cubs after all. The Padres, who were enjoying their first postseason game since the creation of their team came back with a vengeance and won the next three games leaving the Cubs in the dust. Obviously, it was the year that was just not meant to be.

BUT...if you're a DIEHARD Cub Fan you know one thing... you never give up.  That's me...a die-hard Cub's fan on the South Side of Chicago just waiting for that BIG win!!!

In other news... I'm very excited about our new book that is coming out...The Moose at the Manger... Muse the Moose was there and it was a beautiful scene.  Even better than the Cubs winning a World Series!   REALLY!!!  Can't wait for you all to read about it once the book comes out next year!

Signing off for now,
Stanley aka "Stosh"

Announcement: Coming in 2012!

Chris Mas Moose

Hi! My name is Chris Mas Moose, but everyone (and every moose) that knows me calls me Chris!  I was born in December of 1993.  I live with my adopted human parents and have been a domesticated moose all of my life. A dear friend of my "parents" gave me to them on Christmas in 1993. Who would have thought that a simple moose like myself would start such a moose frenzy.  I might be the main moose, but I'm far from the only moose. For years, my Poppy and Moo (that's what I call them) have traveled near and far and collected all types of moose in need of a home.  Friends and family have joined in and found moose to send their way and help make our house a happy and comfy home!

I am now pleased to announce that there will be a book released in 2012 about us!  It's titled
"THE MOOSE AT THE MANGER" and it was written by our very own adopted Moo!  It's a heart-warming story about a moose who is lost and goes on a fantastic journey.  I don't want to spoil the surprise by telling you more about the story, but I thought it would be fun to hear from all of my brothers and sisters in the coming months as the printing and production of our new book gets closer to being released.

This month starts the initial editing process.  As far as moose are concerned, it's not very exciting.  While we LOVE to read and hear good stories, we find it a little difficult to type (having such big hooves and all).  So, we will wait patiently for editing to finish.  In the meantime, check back often so you can meet the rest of our moose family!
